It’s The City Of Love But I Don’t Like Paris

The reality is, which became unbearable to see, was the rate of homelessness in the city of light, which has a result of the overpopulation of beggars, by the metro exits, near street corners, and by tourists sites.

In my previous post, I expressed my feelings towards bringing kids on holiday, especially to a metropolitan city like Paris. Now that I’ve had my much-needed rest, back to my healthy eating habits, and having my space, it’s opened the opportunity to reminisce about my experience in Paris. I’ve heard the good, bad and ugly about the City of Light, which I experienced during my short stay.

Famous creatives, luxurious magazines, Bloggers, and Celebrities speak of Paris as the Enchanting City of Love creating the assumption that every woman walked around in Christain Louboutin heels, the city smells like Chanel no.5 perfume, cute french men riding in Vespas, and locals greeting each other with air kisses. The reality is, which became unbearable to see, was the rate of homelessness in the city of light, which has a result of the overpopulation of beggars, by the metro exits, near street corners, and by tourists sites. Ridiculed with street hustlers trying to get you to buy trinkets. Some of the locals were incredibly sweet, friendly and polite, while others would stare at me to the point of discomfort. Essentially, Paris is like every other large with problems.

Although on my visit to the Louvre, and Eiffel Tower, I took in the environment and tried to capture the perfect picture for Bumascloset, couldn’t help but feel disappointed despite being excited about my trip beforehand. I didn’t get that magical feeling of being in awe with the historical sites, with the food to be lesser than my expectations; a watered down version of the French food. It felt like London with a different landmark and language. Perhaps, the stress of dealing with kids took out the excitement, or maybe I went to the city with high expectations.

Although some of the restaurants I dined at, didn’t have extensive options for customers with dietary needs, the service and waiters were patient and lovely.

Personally, I would advise people to go to Paris with no expectations, as the city would disappoint you the way it disappointed me. The dreams, art and love don’t flow beautifully together like French wine does. Coming from a Londoner, I rather take the chaotic of London, than to go back to Paris anytime soon
